Rain rain go away!

It sure looks like winter has arrived here! Ok I know we haven’t had a summer at all, but I just wish this rain would go away! It must’ve rained just about every day for certainly that past month, if not the one before too. I wold just like a nice dry autumn, not to have winter forced straight upon us! It really is not nice out there tonight, and I am getting fed up of having to pull on my wellies and squelch through ever increasing amounts of mud every day at the stables. We shouldn’t have mud at this time of year, it’s just not right.

But at least our weather isn’t as bad as it it for those poor people in New Orleans and Louisianna. Gustav is certainly showing his strength, I just hope the levees hold for them this time. There will be enough damage as it is, but those poor people don’t need that mass flooding again when they’ve just started to get their lives back.

I know what it’s like in New Orleans with a hurricane coming. I was there in 2002 when Isadore struck. At the time we didn’t realise exactly how much danger we could’ve been in, and how lucky we were. It was bad, but of course no where near the scale of Katrina. A lot of people boarded up and headed out of town before Isadore hit land, we stayed where we were, right in the heart of New Orleans. The rain came down, the winds took roofs off, but at least those levees held that time. The streets flooded and all the roads going out of the city either flooded or got totally submerged, so we couldn’t leave even if we had wanted to. We were stuck in New Orleans for a few days until the water subsided and the roads opened again. It wasn’t until three years ago when Katrina struck that I realised how lucky we were, and it really angered me that the US government didn’t step in a lot sooner to help all those poor people. I just hope that they are ok this time, at least the government has actually evacuated this time. I just wonder how long it will be until the sea claims New Orleans and it ends up under water for good. I think that will happen one day.
